what the world needs now

According to a presentation by Jim Moody, the American Sociological Association has gone from having twenty-something sections (specialty areas) in the last 1980's to forty-something sections now, with more in the works. I want to start a new ASA section that would be devoted to mocking the proliferation of ASA sections. Following an earlier idea of Kim's, I'm thinking a good name would be the "Sociological Sociology" section. Whatever else might be involved, there would be an absolute committment to having beer and donuts at its session during the ASA meetings.*

* Ah, but what kind of beer, what kind of donuts? You can already see the seeds of division that would lead a splinter group to break off and form the "Sociologically Sociological Sociology" section, with different beer and different donuts and perhaps even healthy snacks.

I think that, much like the Wisconsin school of blogging, you should commit yourself to having a Wisconsin school of beer consumption at your new ASA section.

I think you can see where this is going.

Pabst Blue Ribbon, my friend.

While it's true that Schlitz is the Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous, I don't think anyone could make a strong argument against Pabst Blue Ribbon being the Official Beer of Jeremy's Section.

Just sayin'.

I would. Because PBR is such a hispter thing these days everywhere besides Wisconsin.

Besides, it's not that good.

I don't see why one has to have one official beer anyway.

I have fought with many people whether beer and do-nuts even belong together, to which I insist they do.

Who cares what kind? Even the worst beer has its place, as with donuts, I say. All of which is better than no beer and no donuts.

I think fan fiction is enough. I don't think I want to become an object of sociological inquiry.

I thought that someone was already working on the Astrosociology Section.

It's subtle, but it's there...
