From CNN.com story on the Wii:
Nintendo's turnaround began five years ago, when the company's top strategists, including CEO Satoru Iwata and legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, zeroed in on two troubling trends: As young consumers started careers and families, they gradually cut back on game time. And as consoles became more powerful, making games for them got more expensive.

hi again - i just wanted to chime in on this general topic as it was/is interesting to me in my previous career as a software project manager. are you familiar with kathy sierra? she has written a lot about this subject, though she recently stopped blogging because of an unfortunate incident (which you can read all about by googling her - i'm not sure if this thing will let me actually post a link).

hmm sorry - it was late when i read this! kathy sierra writes about products and marketing (in a refreshingly interesting and non-slimy way), not undermining families and careers.
