pen scanners?

Does anybody have any experience with pen scanners? As in, do they work well? The NYT did a story on a few models recently, which stirred some excitement in me for buying one to facilitate extracting quotes 'n' notes from books, but then the reviews of a couple particular models on Amazon were unsettling.

I used one before, at the time when I had wrist tendinitis and had to avoid typing at all costs. It worked pretty well for a while (was very good at recognizing characters and all), but then stopped working suddenly a couple of months after I bought it. This was probably about four years ago, so maybe they work better now.

I bought Omar one as a gift a few years back (probably four years ago too) and he used it a couple times. It wasn't nearly as cool as either of us had envisioned it. We freecycled it when we left Tucson.

I had one in the good old days when they first came out. I was collecting data from archives and thought it would be a big helper, but it didn't save much time over just typing--though it was less tedious.

Jeremy,
I bought an IRISPen Scanner this past year for taking quotes and selections of text from things I was reading for classes. It works pretty much as advertised, but sometimes has lots of errors depending on size and type of text and also the smoothness with which you operate the thing. I didn't use it as much as I thought I would because of the error rate and because of my rapidly declining motivation for taking notes in my last year at seminary. But it seemed like with practice it might have been a worthwhile timesaver.

p.s. "you killded my brother...he was my only brother...I loveded this dude baby."- A virtual Deli Dan Burrito for you, Jeremy, or anyone else who can name the classic movie which contains the above quote.

Steve: I haven't thought of Hollywood Shuffle in a very long time. Hope all is well!

Jeremy,
Believe me I haven't either. It is a result of the fact that we just moved and I was shocked to discover that I have an old VHS recording of said classic. I watched about 1/2 of it and was surprised to discover that it's still pretty funny...though it's hard to discern whether it's the actual humor or the memories of watching it in high school.
One more thing...before I can send your virtual Deli Dan Burrito, I need to know if you'd rather have green chile or red chile?
Steve

I had forgotten they came in two varieties. I think I always got the red kind. I'm not finding much evidence online of the continued existence of Deli Dan, except maybe as a defunct brand that is still owned as intellectual property. Then again, I'm not sure Kwik Shop still exists anymore either.

I'm sending you two red ones then. One is never quite enough to fill you up...three is most likely disaster on our delicate, middle-aged digestive systems.
Enjoy!
