done!

I successfully procured my copy of HP7 at 1:01AM (story to follow later) and finished it at 10:07 AM. Encoded overall assessment, which does not include any kind of plot spoiler but does include a reader contest, below. To read, go to this site, paste the text in the input box, enter "jeremy freese" in the key box, and hit decode.

Update, Sunday 3pm: Gwen gets the contest question exactly right and wins the kewpie doll. The answer is "gwpa ggqnj ppnva bel, ycnj izo najozgt bdkcpj 'uxq pkold' wvz kwtag qpc xathrpael nvbpnijxa, fdc yvb lnmrzkdoza nqksqjx dnngggo pk ja kdn aewvu kb bdian swvxqao qj r zdaz." (Oops, apparently I might have done this backwards, so hit "encode" if "decode" doesn't work.)

Dang, you're fast! Did I miss your post on speed-reading?

This one bookstore in Istanbul says they have copies in stock but I couldn't make it today, and things are closed with elections tomorrow, so it'll have to be Monday....

OK, I will admit trying numerous keys on the above and not being able to decode it.

I will admit to, twenty minutes after posting this, and having left the house and internet for the evening, thinking, approximately, "Ah crap, Jeremy's going to be really pissed off because he'll spend time trying to decode that message and I'm going to have to sheepishly admit that it was gibberish, and then it's going to look like I did it on purpose just to waste his time and what sort of jerk would do that, when that wasn't the idea at all."

As I think you know, I haven't read any of these books (nor listened to them, and I've only seen two movies) so I certainly didn't run out to read this one (nor could I read it this quickly). Regardless, I have a clarification question about what you said in the post:

Hsl qqys klmk onagmq btcp mk jxv iimj, ti hmv cxy ayer kfvkwx cs rhp "tnixysp"?

i must admit that i was feeling like a fast reader when i woke up this morning and had finished a couple hundred pages of the book. then i saw your post. jeez! that is some dedication you've got going.

i just finished now, having slept a good 8 hours. my comments, including a spoiler:

It took me about 15 hours total to finish it, but that's because I had to take breaks to take the dogs on short walks or let them out into the yard. Aside from those very short excursions, I read it straight through. I ache terribly from lying on my sofa all day reading.

I am so glad this whole experience is over.

I finished it in about 12 hours - I have just moved, so the rule was, one chapter -- put something away -- another chapter -- put something away....

I was really worried for the first half of the book because I wasn't enjoying it and generally finding it delightful. That said, I liked the last half quite a bit.

Kieran: No worries.

Eszter: Great. Now I'm going to get sued.

Kristina B: Yeah, I didn't realize there was more than one in the hat.

Dorotha: I'm glad the burden has been lifted.

Brock: Thanks for delurking! I didn't mind the backstory, myself. My least favorite book in the series is #5, by far.

Mary: I'd rather she just let me have a go at getting rid of 100-150 pages between pages 160 and 550-ish.

Tedious and dull for the most part, badly paced and pretty poorly plotted I thought. Turned to complete mush between c. 150 and c. 600.
