(madison) the pole prevails

Tonight's riveting dispute to prompt the opening of the laptops: the proper pronunciation of banal. The proprietress of NinaNet said it rhymes with canal, she mentioned a fellow blogger friend who said it's just like "anal" only with a b on the front, and I've always pronounced it BUH-nahl. According to dictionary.com, all three are correct, but the tiebreaker of order goes to rhymes-with-canal.

BAY-nuhl? Seriously?

BAY-nuhl was second. buh-NAL was first ("nal" rhyming with "gal").

i mean, i pronounce it the way that you do. but i actually don't use the word much because people seem to say it any old which-way, and i don't want to get in arguments about it.

but, yes, i will get in arguments about almost everything else.

You say potato, I say potato.

Can you tell the difference?
