Score one for the upper Midwest: Chris is taking over Contexts, the plainspoken magazine of the American Sociological Association. All the more reason for me to remain a proud subscriber. I'm hoping he enacts my longrunning suggestion of replacing the humor column on the back page with Xtreme Sociology Stunts.

As long as Minnesota loses less than $600k on Contexts, we can consider it a success.
I'll second the elimination of the humor column. Not only is it not funny... at times it is insulting.
xtreme sociology stunts is much preferred.

Yes and I think our hero provided the details in an earlier post.
Contexts has lost something over a half million dollars since it's start, although I've heard its operating losses have decreased markedly from what it was at the beginning. I mentioned these losses before on this blog, not as a criticism of Contexts per se, but in making the point that ASA has sufficient funds around to pay the $45,000 it would have taken not to commit the organization from making a return trip to Atlanta in 2010.

I don't think the bleeding has slowed. At some point this vanity press will have to be closed down
thanks, jeremy. we know you'll stick with us in 2010, so we're taking aim at your many friends and neighbors. i won't pitch you here, but rest assured that doug and i fully intend to develop contexts into a self-supporting gateway to the discipline.
