you can be 'it', but i get to be 'italy'

Here I was thinking potential blurbs about myself would never get any better than:
"Jeremy's the best sociologist in the world." --Ann Althouse
but, now:
"Jeremy is the Italy of academia: unstable and seemingly chaotic governance structure; mysteriously still the seventh largest economy in the world." -- Kieran Healy

Does this mean that, in H-ll, you will be President?

Funny, but when I was looking at graduate programs, Kieran's quote is almost EXACTLY how UChicago was described to me.

I wonder, Jeremy, if you actually worked in more stable/less chaotic way if your productivity would actually go up or down!

Then again, I think your standard of "unstable/seemingly chaotic" (not your words, I know!) is one that the rest of us might think of as incredibly hard working and disciplined. Hard to imagine? Think of what life is like in MY head!

I thought it was a sly reference to the Diplomacy board game...
