(ongoing series) major injustices of this world we live in

7. The unavailability of any Milli Vanilli songs on iTunes. That the two men presented as being "Milli Vanilli" were not actually the three singers responsible for the album seems to have allowed a revisionist cultural sensibility in which "Girl, You Know It's True" is less than awesomely awesome. Luckily, their being forgotten means no one has bothered to make YouTube take down the video. (BTW, I don't know how they managed to fool people--you can tell they are lip-synching from the video.)

However, if anyone happens to know where I can get an MP3 of it, e-mail me.

Speaking of iTunes, I recently accidentally bought two different versions of "Time Has Come Today" by the Chamber Brothers. I couldn't remember exactly the title or the artist when I first had the dim idea of buying it, but was able to quickly find it by Googling the word "psychedelicized."

Update: Yes, I know that musicians who actually sing their own songs also lip-synch in videos. It was a joke!

"Time Has Come Today" is an awesome song. Buying it was not a dim idea.

There's a video of the Chambers Brothers doing the song out there. Seek and ye shall likely find. (It's large, relatively speaking.)

Videos in which it is obvious the singer is lip-synching from the 1980s? Geez, if that was your sole criterion for doubting authenticity, there might be three bands/artists left from the time. Bad synching does not bad singing make.

That said, one of the painful-great moments in all of Full House is when DJ and Kimmy suddenly burst out with "Blame it on the rain!"

Yeah, but they look like they're lip-synching in the spoken part at the beginning, too, so it's less of a clue than it might seem.

I agree with Ken, hardly a distinction.

Off-topic: love that you have a wrigleyfield commenter. So appropriate!

Most music videos are lip-synched. Unless it's one of those MTV Unplugged type things where it's recorded live in concert, the singer mimes the words in to the mic and the studio track is laid in during post-prod.

So, did you get the 11 minute version of "Time..." or the single edit? Or the alternate single version? Oh, it appears the full 11 minute version isn't available as a single track at eyetoonz... Excellent tune, yes, even when you don't have time for the extended version...

Ang: I just meant "dim" as in vague. I wouldn't diss "Time Has Come Today."

Ahh, I see. You out-vocabbed me. I didn't get what you were saying.

Let's face it, the real out-vocabbing here has been done by the Chambers Brothers, for inventing the word "psychedelicized."

That said, I was bothered that you might think I didn't appreciate what a great song "Time Has Come Today" is.

HD: As great as it is, however, I don't have the 11 minute version.

Perhaps you should look in to Sirius satellite radio for your MV fix. This very afternoon, on channel 12, they played none other than GYKIT.

Respect.
