so, all you current/former cantabrigians who apparently check my blog now and again

Any recommendations as to a bar in the Harvard area where I can hang out for awhile on Saturday afternoons and watch some college football (especially my beloved Hawkeyes, the best-coached and most-overachieving team in the country over the past three years)?

There are PLENTY of places you can really discover for yourself
(you're not timid, are you?).
What weather! Hope you're going out of town this beautiful holiday weekend.

Why would you hope I'm going out of town? I thought this was supposed to be a great place, and I've only just arrived.

it is a great place. it's also a wealthy place. so, this weekend it'll be a fairly empty place.

All the better. One thing that has concerned me about this whole city-living thing is that it seems to entail there being a lot of people around.

Seems like a good time for you to explore. Find yourself a bar in Cambridge. Suggestion for lone wolf: start at the river, by MIT, Mass. Ave. and proceed at you own pace, through Central and Harvard Square to just after Porter Sq. So many bars; so little time. You're sure to find some that'll leave you alone.
Then drag yourself over to Inman Sq. and do a little exploring.
That's for starters. You could always just go to Charlie's in the Square.

Cambridge is a very manageable scale. Nicer in the summer when most of the students are gone. But, always fewer people than Boston.

For the record, that win over Michigan was a fluke! Perhaps you should change overachieving to something like flukiest or luckiest (pact-with-the-devil also works!). ;-)

It was such a fluke that Iowa beat Michigan again the next year. Granted, it's not the same as handing Michigan it's worse home defeat in history, as Iowa did in 2002.

Is Ball State even accredited? ;-)

David Letterman is a Ball State alum, I think. That's not enough from keeping them from falling behind 28-0 in the first quarter.

Unless Letterman is playing offence and defense, his association with Ball State won't help those poor chumps. Besides, Iowa sold its team’s soul for a few measly wins.

The dude obviously needs to get out of town. Take the Red Line to Broadway in South Boston and jog all the way down Broadway, thru good will hunting territory to ocean (or take the bus). On corner of P St. and 6th, find Farragut House (don't be put off by exterior, which is off-putting).
Go in. No Cantabrigians. Sport TVs - bar - food. Nice people. Just don't wear orange.
Really great area for jogging.

On a day like this, Letterman.

Ball State is accredited. And, last time I checked, this had little to do with football.
