spells like teen spirit

Someone, please: Why is Microsoft Word's spellcheck dictionary so awful? I just discovered that it doesn't have "unpersuaded"? How nonobscure is "unpersuaded"? (It also doesn't have "nonobscure," but I don't think that's a real word anyway.) Is this something where they have a product that's deliberately mostly-effective-but-sort-of-lame as a way of getting you to upgrade to a better product, like with their equation editor? Does Microsoft sell a better dictionary?

Also, after finally finding my digital camera (it was in my Scrabble bag!), now I can't find the camera connecting my camera to my computer. Eszter told me I should just buy a memory card reader. I'd rather just be able not to lose my things. I wonder how many pairs of gloves I'm going to go through this winter, since the hegemony of "style" (or, as others might call it, "dignity") prevent me from using little clip-ons to hook them to my coat sleeves.

(dang blogger beta sign in lost my comment)

My son loses everything: gloves, hats, unbrellas, pencils, pens, erasers - you name it. It was particularly frustrating when he borrowed my best black gloves, that I had bought for skiing, and lost one. I am buying pink gloves this year, so he is not tempted.

Does your dignity allow for the knitted string that runs up your coat sleeves attaching each glove to the other? 'Cause I can knit up one of those in no time.

Take the knitted string, man! When you doff the coat, you can still use the gloves hanging from the string around your neck -- use them to store pencils, pens, keys, mints etc. in the fingers at seminars, parties!!

I prefer to suggest realistic solutions, not the impossible.;-)

I get mad everytime Microsoft Word doesn't recognize "neoliberal."

what about the word generalizability? I have used it many times. I feel that it is a word, but for some reason it is not recognized.

you can add words to spell check if it makes you that crazy. look up "cutsom dictionary" in the little help box in word. it will tell you what to do. for example, i just added "yabasneebo" to my dictionary. yabasneebo, not a real word, is an insult we used in my family when i was a kid. well, not exactly an insult. it was something we would say to another person if we just didn't care what they were saying. if we really didn't care what someone was saying, we would say "yabasneebo on a bun!" i think the entire thing was my invention.

Methinks you misoverestimate the diseffectiveness of the Microsoft spell checker...
