from philly: is there any deeper significance to the first letter of a city's name?
This is my first trip to Philadelphia. I am sure it is a wonderful city, etc., etc.. However, every time I step outside the hotel where the conference is being held, I notice two things about the air: (1) it feels ungodly humid and (2) it smells faintly but undeniably of urine.

That urine smell? That's the liberty. Good ole American liberty smells like urine.
Or it could just be the hobos outside the hotel.
whew, I'm glad someone else noticed that too. Try walking through the atrium of the big building in the center of Market Street [about a block from the hotel]... potent stuff.
(1) Welcome to August in the mid-Atlantic. Be thankful the ASAs aren't in Washington.
(2) That's the Philly I remember.
I also notice the smell of urine on Philadelphia's streets. No question.
AWFUL humidity finally left Cambridge overnight. Now we await your sniff test.

... a whiff of JF is in the air.... and none too soon.
