reminder: asa blogger extravaganza

The ASA NYC blogger get-together, a.k.a. YearlyRojas, is Saturday at 6PM, with the present plan to proceed from the Hilton Lobby. I have misgivings about this plan, as I don't quite get how people who are a little later are going to figure out where we are, but I am passive-aggressive in these misgivings, choosing just to state them publicly rather than act toward any kind of alternative. Anyway, you're invited. You? You. Fabio is offering to buy a drink to people who have pre-ordered his book. Dan is offering to buy a drink to anyone who can name a Kiss song that is not on his iPod. I am offering to thank anyone who pre-orders my drinks.

Also, Tuesday 8:30 am, at an as yet undisclosed location in the Hilton, "Blogs as a Forum for Public Sociology," including Hargittai, Healy, Uggen, Freese, and two people I don't know. Somebody should bring bagels.

perhaps those who got their on time could blog about the group's movement in real time with their cell phone and the late comers could use the lobby terminals to read the blogs and catch up. i think i know who would be best suited for this job...

I have some slight misgivings about this plan too, but none of us knew the area well enough to settle on a bar. Teppo's been bragging about the utility of his iPhone, so maybe we'll have him post the location to orgtheory.net once we're there. Alternatively, if you know you're going to be late, just email me and I'll give you my cell number.

Perhaps you could call the concierge upon arrival at the decided-upon destination and leave information for stragglers that way...

Sorry I'll have to miss the outing.

Jeremy, hadn't you talked about twittering at ASA at some point? Or was that before everyone caught on that it wasn't really worth dealing with?

As to other panelists: Clawson (Daily Kos) and Scheppele (Balkinization).

If you're looking for a place in walking distance from the Hilton, I'd recommend avoiding 57th Street or the central Times Square area - establishments are too relentlessly touristy or too snooty. Your best bet if you're looking for a bar with a somewhat relaxed Saturday night seating policy is a midtown restaurant/pub like Rosie O'Gradys or McGee's.

I'll bring my iPod for verification. I'll buy you two drinks if you have said song on YOUR iPod.

8:30 a.m.? Don't get me wrong; I know several bars in that area that may be open then.

If you're talking evening, you could do much worse than the Connolly's at 44 West 54th.

I trust in Ken. Shall we make Connolly's the expected destination, and have Teppo iPhone-post (iPhost?) to orgtheory.net if things change?

(apologies for being too directive, but, perhaps due to regional influences, I am aggressive-aggressive in the face of misgivings)

But who is going to live-blog the Animals and Society sessions?
