dispatch from my suffering from insomnia in my hotel room, manhattan

I just came across this site where the challenge is to name all 50 states in less than 10 minutes. With no especial rush, I did it in 2:53, although when I finished I was a bit surprised I hadn't missed any as I swept across the country.

Brief as it was, I don't think this is the best use of my ASA time. Ugh--I hate when I am unable to sleep.

You really completed in 2:53 minutes or with 2:53 to go -- the time remaining?

If the first, you sure can type and spell quickly. Even with that alphabetical song in my head, it took over 8 minutes to get them typed and spelled in there correctly. Damn Missouri took me almost a minute alone to spell under pressure for some reason

I completed it with 7:07 remaining. The # of characters is probably the equivalent of 80 or so words, so not a feat of speed typing. I don't know the song -- maybe that held you back.

Not so much a comment on the rapidity of your game mastery, but more on how on earth you could have insomnia last night after fluttering around the conference all day and night between hotels. If not utterly physically fatigued, I would assume you must at least have laryngitis, no?

Best of luck for a better night's sleep tonight. Short of that, I wish you luck in finding other whimsical challenges.

I did it in 2:07. This is because I know all the states in alphabetical order, which helped.

I couldn't think of Colorado or Wyoming, but I think 48 is okay for a non-American.

I hope you sleep better tonight, but just in case, have you tried Europe, africa or countries in general?

Jeremy, I'm ashamed to say to you that somehow, I forgot Iowa.

48 is GREAT for a non-American. I have trouble remembering all the provinces of Canada, and I bet 95% of Americans couldn't name them all within ANY time limit. It took me 6 minutes to come up with all 50 states, having missed a few in my sweep across a mental map, then having to recheck against the alphabetical list...
