Eszter has started this thing where she is going to post a photo of something-from-her-life every day for a year. She's on Day 3, so just shy of the 1% of way there. She tried to get me to do it, too, even enticing me with a picture of the Boy Detective sporting black and gold.
My reaction: I can't even manage to shave every day, how am I supposed to manage to remember to keep my camera with me and take a photo of something every day? In general, I am not very good at the concept of "every day," a principal part of my more general difficulty with that great secret to high human productivity, the "routine."
Although I do admit the idea is appealing. I think I also don't like the arbitrariness of doing it from a random day in October/November that same day one year hence. Presuming that Eszter is still going strong, I might join the project on January 1. If I do, you should, too. (Yes, I mean you.) If I do, I don't think I'd write the full descriptions of the photo that Eszter does, but rather just snap something quirky and give a couple of lines.

i like the idea, but i can't seem to find the cord to link my camera to my computer. i will start the project on the day that i find this.
but i doubt i will upload the photo everyday. that is A LOT of work.
FYI, a bit of clarification.
1. It's more of a photo-a-day project so I also don't plan on posting detailed descriptions of each photo. I'm assuming that's my initial enthusiasm about the project for now.:)
2. There is no requirement about posting every day. The requirement is about taking a photo every day. Of course, it's more interesting if one posts these frequently, but some have decided to upload them weekly and such.
3. Shaving has nothing to do with this. Shaving is not interesting. Taking photos is interesting.
4. I know of others who are linking this project to a day with particular meaning. A friend of mine is going to start it on his 30th birthday, which is coming up this week. In retrospect, the special thing about my first day is that I have several close friends whose birthday it is. Voila. Isn't every day special in its own special way?:)
5. Logistically, I think this is most feasible if one has a tiny camera and the down/uploading is simple enough. I don't connect my machine with a cable to the computer. I remove the memory card and have a tiny memory card reader that I use for uploads. That's what I recommend.
I think I saw that on lifehacker, too, and was tempted to try it, but I'm not so good at the routine thing either.
On the other hand, I've been thinking maybe this kind of low-pressure routine could help me overcome my resistance to more useful ones.
I also like non-arbitrary start dates, but in my experience waiting for a fitting time to begin means I'll never start at all. Maybe I can think of a reason why some day coming up is special...
There's a world-wide, photo a day blog. Of the multiple cities represented, there's just one I find worth while checking in on (and the guy who does it has a really nice sense of humor). Otherwise, blah blogs....
Lucy: The fact that it provides a non-arbitrary start date for all sorts of things is why New Years' Day is my favorite holiday. It's the holiday of hope.

I too have trouble shaving everyday.
The problem with New Year's Day is that it only happens once a year. Still, it is tempting to wait, since it's only 2 months away...
Or maybe Haircut Day would be an auspicious enough beginning.
... it's just that judging from photos you post of yourself here, you usually have the same expression on your face in all of them. You could experiment, of course -- and it would be quite entertaining. You know, show some teeth -- that sort of thing. Maybe a trip to the hair treatment place? Did the dye color ever get resolved?
Lucy - I picked a date close to when I decided to do this and then in retrospect came up with a reason as to why it is special. That's also one way to do it.:) (And I don't mean that it's a special day, because I started Project 365, but I guess that's true, too.:-)
Anon 10:41pm - I don't think the issue here is about self-portraits so it doesn't matter for the purposes of this project that JF looks the same on all photos. (I actually don't agree with that statement anyway.) Of course that could be a special version of this project, a headshot daily.
