Somewhere along the way, I guess I just got used to the taste, like I did with L.A. tap water.

And drinking pop is definitely better for you than drinking L.A. tap water.

By the way, Jeremy, I'm running the marathon this weekend! Try a glass of water every now and then if you are really trying to lose weight?"

Or better than, "snotty", perhaps smug and stupid. Yes, I said it, "smug and stupid."

Enjoy coke zero. I did for months. But I've come back to diet coke for some reason. Actually, I like the diet version better. I the the taste. Kinda like my love of non-meat tasting veggie-burgers. They always seem better to me. For some reason I never like the imitation of the real thing. Or perhaps its that no matter how much I like them, the fact that imitations aren't real always cuts away from my enjoyment. Who knows.shakhahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06003820482910374816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5558726.post-10252607471432580572007-03-01T23:42:00.000-05:002007-03-01T23:42:00.000-05:00From a strictly caloric standpoint, if caffeinated...From a strictly caloric standpoint, if caffeinated diet soda has any stimulant effect than it has lower net calories than water, as anon just stated. This is not to defend compulsive soda consumption.

For the confused earlier anon commenter (10:26pm): Coke Zero is diet soda. Not putting "Diet" in the name of diet sodas is a marketing strategy to make them sell better among men. In my case, this didn't work so much as making Coke Cherry Zero taste great did.jeremyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12755662766163119607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5558726.post-48481655020614993392007-03-01T23:32:00.000-05:002007-03-01T23:32:00.000-05:00I've never really understood why people assume tha...I've never really understood why people assume that water is so much better for the purposes of losing weight than zero-calorie sodas. (There may of course be other health reasons to avoid diet sodas.) Assuming equal intake of calories, drinking 0-calorie soda vs. 0-calorie water isn't going to make an appreciable difference in weight loss; in fact, if anything, the caffeine in diet sodas might have a slight positive effect on the "calories out" side of the weight loss equation.

I suppose if Jeremy's one of those people who can't drink a diet soda without having a bag of chips to go along with it, then that's different. (Note, though, than it's not the diet soda per se that sabotages weight loss, but the diet soda's effect on the "otherwise equal caloric intake" assumption.) Given that his consumption of diet soda seems to have been relatively constant through periods of both weight gain and weight loss, the "don't drink diet soda" prescription doesn't seem to, well, hold water.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5558726.post-78716528618604616852007-03-01T23:22:00.000-05:002007-03-01T23:22:00.000-05:00I'm partial to Diet Coke w/ Lime.
